Guide to the PTA

The PTA is the “Parent Teacher Association” of our school.  It is  a group of people, comprised of parents, teachers and school administrators.  The Providence PTA is an all volunteer organization.  Our goal is to help every student at Providence Elementary School grow and learn in an excellent school environment.  Whether we are hosting a fun “sock hop” dance or providing new “Smart Boards” to the school with our surplus funds at the end of the year, we are dedicated to the Providence Elementary School community.

The PTA is governed by an elected committee and volunteer committee chairs.

The PTA holds its monthly meetings on the second Monday of every month at 9am in the library at PES.  Meetings are open to the public and everyone is invited to join.  Minutes of the meetings are posted on this website and available for your information.  The PTA abides by the following by-laws.

Our annual budget is approved by the general membership of the PTA at the first school wide event of the year which is the Back to School Picnic.  The budget covers our operating costs, the amount of fundraising we do, the amount that we give to each grade level and the school in general.

The PTA sponsors many different events each year.  We have traditionally held a Bingo Night, a Sock Hop Dance, a Spring Fun Fair and much more.  We are present at most school events.  The PTA has a page in the monthly “Panther Press” and sends home all our flyers and information in the Tuesday Folders on YELLOW paper.

The PTA is involved in a number of fundraising activities as well.  We organize the “Sally Foster” sales in the fall, we host Family Fun night at local restaurants a few times a year and we have our general membership drive in the fall.  All our fundraising efforts are for the benefit of the school and the student that year.  Last spring, we voted to buy the school three new laptops, two new Smart Boards and almost $1000 worth of music equipment with our surplus. 

The Providence PTA is a member of the National PTA Organization, the Virginia Commonwealth PTA organization and the Fairfax County Council of PTAs.  Part of each member’s dues every year is paid to this organizations.  Follow the links on our Helpful Links page to read more about these great organizations.
